According to foreign media reports, Jaguar Land Rover announced that from 2020, it will realize the electrification of all its models, including pure electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid models.

Jaguar Land Rover plans to electrify Jaguar Sport models and Land Rover SUVs as the government tightens its efforts to combat air pollution and CO2 emissions. Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth said in his speech that this move will provide our consumers with more choices.

Jaguar plans to start selling the electric version of the I-Pace next year and has already received 25,000 orders, Speth said. Jaguar Land Rover is expected to launch plug-in hybrid versions of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport large SUVs in the near future.

Jaguar E-type Zero

In a sign of its determination to foray into electric vehicles, Jaguar Land Rover showcased the Jaguar E-type Zero, an electric version of the E-type, at Tata's annual technology conference on Thursday.

Converted at Jaguar's Classic Works factory, the E-type accelerates from 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds. The E-type Zero uses an electric drive with a power output of 220kW, and the lithium-ion battery pack used is similar in size and weight to the original E-type's XK six-cylinder engine.

Jaguar Land Rover has always relied heavily on diesel vehicles in the European market, which has been in dire straits because of nitrogen oxide emissions. Diesel vehicles account for 96 percent of Land Rover's sales in Europe and 84 percent of Jaguar's sales, according to data provided by Swedish analytics firm AID. Like most premium carmakers, Jaguar Land Rover will need diesel vehicles to meet EU emissions regulations until 2021.

The French and British governments each said in July that they would ban the sale of gasoline and diesel vehicles starting in 2040 as a way to reduce air pollution and CO2 emissions.
